Sexual Addiction Educational Series Trains Ministers and Christian Counselors to Treat Growing Epidemic
Siloam Springs, AR, (PRWEB) October 13, 2005 -- Christian ministers and mental health professionals can now get training on how to provide treatment for sexual addiction with the groundbreaking Diagnosis and Treatment of Sexual Addiction video-based educational program developed by Elucida Learning. The series is the most comprehensive faith-based sexual addiction learning resource on the market.
“Churches are desperately looking for ways to help people in their congregations who are struggling with sexual addiction. We have created a high impact, low maintenance resource to meet this need,” said Bryson Moore, Vice President of Operations for Elucida Learning.
Christian counselors and ministers can get 30 accredited hours of graduate-level training with the Diagnosis and Treatment of Sexual Addiction series. Since the series is divided into three sections, students can learn at their own pace in a convenient and cost-effective way.
“This is solid material that you can’t get in any other series,” said Dr. H. Norman Wright, author of Experiencing Grief.
Moreover, this series delves into the topic of sexual addiction by combining the latest research with a sound scriptural basis. It allows Christian counselors and ministers to get in-depth training on how to work with people with sexual addiction problems. It provides a delicate strategy for churches to implement a church ministry dealing with sexual addiction.
“One of the reasons I believe it is vitally important for people to get instruction and to learn is because there are so many hurting people out there and they don’t know who to turn to,” said Dr. Mark Laaser, a contributing instructor for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Sexual Addiction series and an internationally known expert on sexual addiction. “We’ve seen lots of cases where Christian professionals have been willing to help but haven’t had sufficient training.”
Much of the teaching and training that does exist approaches sexual addiction as a sexual problem. The uniqueness of Diagnosis and Treatment of Sexual Addiction is that it very specifically targets the problem as a symptom of deeper heart issues. It also looks at the interaction between sexual addiction and brain activity.
“What we try to do with this series is teach people about their coping styles,” said Dr. Laaser. “That applies to both the addict and the spouse.”
The DVD series first provides a definition of what sexual addiction is and how pervasive it is becoming in society. It then teaches ways to assess someone with sexual addiction and then ultimately provides the tools to treat the sexual addict. The DVD series includes training from top experts such as Dr. Patrick Carnes, Dr. Daniel Amen, Marnie C. Ferree and Eli Machen.
Dr. Laaser believes this training is vital. “It really behooves pastors and Christian counselors to be trained in how to work with people on these problems.”
